The North River is the first Scenic Protected River in Massachusetts and the North and South Rivers were designated a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service.  This presentation is an overview of the natural events that lead to what the Rivers are today.  How the North And South Rivers Watershed Association actually began as well as its Mission and accomplishments.
We’ll give a brief history of the world-famous Shipbuilding Industry on the North River from the mid 1600’s to the mid 1800’s.  And how the Portland Gale of 1898 changed the course of the North River.  This is a wonderful presentation of the Rich History, Fragile Ecology and Natural Beauty of the North and South Rivers.
