The South Shore Art Center in Cohasset exhibits artwork from their members on the walls of our meeting room. Every two months, an artist's work is displayed. Title: Sitting Pretty

The series of chair paintings in this exhibit, “Sitting Pretty,” was done during the pandemic: housebound, she looked around her home for subject matter to paint and discovered that she was surrounded by an interesting variety of chairs, each with a distinct character, personality, and story to tell: little rockers from her children’s, her mother’s, and a good friend’s childhoods; a cozy reading armchair; dining room Hitchcock; antique ladderback; porch rockers; summer wicker; bedroom side chair. Inspired by a collection of decorative handmade papers, JoAnne prepared them as a base on which to paint these little chair portraits in oil.
